The Hague ‘Events City of the Year’
Prizes for The Hague Jazz, De Betovering and Festival Classique
The Hague was crowned the ‘Events City of the Year’ in the Netherlands during the Nationale Evenementenprijzen (National Events Prizes). The outgoing alderman for city marketing Frits Huffnagel proudly accepted the honorary award on behalf of The Hague.
In addition to ‘Events City of the Year’ events in The Hague took more prizes. The Hague Jazz won a prize in the category of ‘Best Event for City Promotion’ and the children’s festival De Betovering was named the ‘Most Fun City Event’. There was recognition for the Nachmobiel from KoninginneNach in the category of Innovation. And Festival Classique won a prize in the Culture category as ‘Best Regional Event’.
All the top people from the Dutch events industry came together in the GelreDome in Arnhem on 26 May for the annual presentation of the National Events Prizes. Ten cities were nominated as the best events city. The jury chose The Hague because the city carries out a consistent events policy, continuously strives for innovation and has a fantastic events calendar with something for everyone and high-quality cultural events.
Important part of city promotion
The choice of The Hague as Events City of the Year is the crowning achievement for departing Deputy Mayor Frits Huffnagel. ‘Three years ago we were number 4, two years ago number 3, last year number 2 and now number 1,’ said Huffnagel. ‘And it’s a wonderful title. Events are an important part of city promotion. They generate business, a positive image and a lively city. The Hague Festivals, a yearly festival period held in June, was created four years ago with these ideas in mind. This title proves that the best events take place in The Hague all the year round!”
The National Events Prizes are awarded to events which have stood out during the preceding year and have contributed to city promotion.
