The Hague student designs The Hague Festivals 2009 campaign
THE HAGUE – A cheque for €1000 handed to her by councillor Frits Huffnagel and the unique opportunity of designing the campaign image for The Hague Festivals 2009 as second year student. That is what the 21 year old student, Joy Andriessen, who is studying at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten (KABK, Royal Academy of the Visual Arts), won with her poster design last night.
‘The winning poster is a fresh and upbeat design which draws your attention and clearly announces the imminent arrival of the The Hague Festivals’, Frits Huffnagel states. It was decisive for the jury that the design is a concept which can easily be applied to other manifestations, like the promotional beer coaster which the student had already drawn up for her presentation.
Joy Andriessen will develop the concept further together with Gert Dumbar who is a graphic designer and a teacher at KABK so that her design will be displayed all over the city during The Hague Festivals. Andriessen: ‘The Hague is my city, I was born and raised here. I am absolutely thrilled that I have been given this opportunity and that my poster will be displayed all over the city!’
For the campaign poster of The Hague Festivals we drew from the young creative talent which The Hague is blessed with, in abundance. Six second year students presented their poster ideas to a professional jury consisting of city marketing Councillor Frits Huffnagel (chairman), Director of KABK Jack Verduyn Lunel, graphic designer Gert Dumbar and Director of The Hague Marketing Anja Overhoff. The other candidates were rewarded with high praise and €125 each.
