The Hague celebrates four days of Prinsjesdag (Princes Day) with plenty of festive activities

The third Tuesday in September is approaching fast and The Hague prepares for a true national feast. In Holland’s only city on the sea the festivities won’t be limited to that one day with the royal couple in the Glass Carriage. There will be as many as four joyful days with plenty of activities for young and old. An ideal opportunity for a couple of pleasant days or a long weekend in The Hague.


From Saturday September 16th up to and including Prinsjesdag September 19th the city of The Hague will be buzzing with special activities. From markets, fashion shows and music to comedy, shows and a parade. Enjoy the various performances, culinary masterpieces and cultural surprises. And in between events there’s great shopping in the city centre or taking a stroll along the beach. Below a few highlights. You will find more information on the website.


Saturday 16 september

12.00-18.00: Princes market on the Lange Voorhout: Exclusive hats, fabulous bags, fashion, jewellery and good food.
13.00-14.30: ‘Princes Walk’ through the historical heart of The Hague.
14.00-15.00: Spectacular rehearsal show on the Lange Voorhout by the Mountain Escort of the Royal Military Police.
15.00-17.00: Princes Hatwalk: a grand design contest with special hats made by students and professional hat makers. Politicians and their partners will also show their headwear of Prinsjesdag 2016 on the runway.


Sunday 17 september

10.00: General rehearsal from the Royal Mews at the Noordeinde by the Royal Military Police
11.30: Lustrum parade of the Cavalry Escort of Honour on the Lange Voorhout with a music performance by the Corps of Drums of Grenadier Guards on the Lange Voorhout
13.00-16.30: Princes comedy show (in Dutch) at Diligentia by Jan Jaap van der Wal, Pieter Derks, Kiki Schippers and Kasper van der Laan The shops in the city centre will be open on Sunday between 12.00-17.00.


Monday 18 september
10.00: Spectacular Beach Rehearsal of the Cavalry Escort of Honor on the Beach (Scheveningen beach, in front of the Kurhaus).
16.00-17.30: Princes Forum (Korte Voorhout 8, discussions in Dutch)
20.15-22.30: Princes comedy show (in Dutch)


Tuesday 19 september Prinsjesdag!

The city centre will be buzzing with activities all day and there will be free gadgets, photo booths and promo teams all over town. Tickets for a royal view from the Orange tribune at the Lange Voorhout (10.00-14.00) can be bought from the Tourist Information (VVV) at Spui 68, telephone number (070) 361 8860 or online. The ticket price is € 16 exclusive of service fee.


12.00-17.00: Princes market with attractive offers from local shops
12:45: Glass Carriage leaves the Royal Stables heading towards Noordeinde Palace
13:00: Royal procession from Noordeinde palace to the Binnenhof
13:15: King’s speech at the Hall of Knights
13:50: Glass Carriage exits Binnenhof heading towards Noordeinde Palace
14:00: Balcony Scene at Noordeinde Palace
14:30: Musical show of military forces down the Lange Voorhout
